Crescent House is incredible residence on slope site of South Hakone, Japan. It has stunning architecture of crescent shaped plan and a huge cantilever roof. The goal is to provide private living place which is giving closed area of people at east, west and south. At north side this house is overlooking Mt. Fuji with wonderful environment which is surrounding this comfy home. Nature can be separated with this unique building. Exceptional slope site house has great blessing of nature. Big trees and large garden create cool living place of modern family which is always love in natural landscape as a part of life. Shigeru Ban Architects design this residence with unique architecture according to the slope site. As private home, it gives comfortable feeling of living in the middle of nature.
Great architecture of crescent shaped plan was enclosed from back side but it is open at front side. Large glass wall provides maximize nature landscape of the environment and the sun light. Warm atmosphere comes from this concept. It is comfortable house with two bedrooms, living space, dining room and kitchen which are arranged by putting furniture and volumes of utility facilities as partitions. A huge cantilever roof serves as the center of hook shaped plan since the cross section of that area is the deepest because of used as a living area. Although a column is necessary to prevent the roof of bending and a chimney of fireplace is used instead of it. At Crescent House in Japan, the entrance is installed at the basement of the house. Glass box is created for cool entrance. The guests must walk through the stairs when they want to enter into the house. It straight up into the living area. Large garden fulls of green grass and plants. Stone pathway and rocks increase cool atmosphere of a park.
As center of the house, this living area is designed with minimalist interior. There is modest decoration. A big chimney of fireplace also serves as strong cantilever for the roof. Minimalist furniture was chosen to provide generous space. Traditional Japanese interior applies so strong in here. Seating on the floor is usually at Japanese house. The fireplace gives warm at winter. Glass wall offers dramatic scenery of surrounding.
To get spacious space of the house, layout plan of each space can be separated with partition. Kitchen and dining space is located in same area. With living area, it is separated by white partition. White color also provides wider space. Minimalist furniture was chosen in this space. There is only dining table and kitchen set. There is no other. Need high imagination to create and design stunning architecture like this house. It is a masterpiece!
